OAKLAND, Calif., January 8, 2008– Rockridge Soccer Club (www.rockridgesoccer.com) and Sutton Soccer (www.suttonsoccer.com) today announced a partnership whereby Sutton’s professional soccer trainers will integrate a variety of teaching tools to train Rockridge players and coaches in a coordinated approach. Unique in the Bay Area youth soccer community, the goal of the partnership is to improve the soccer skills of both coaches and players in all levels of soccer—from recreational through Class III—in an affordable, fun manner.
According to Eric Sippel, Rockridge Soccer’s Coaching and Class III Coordinator, “With this new partnership, Rockridge Soccer will be able to significantly upgrade the quality of the coaching in our club and build our our coaching talent over time to enhance the soccer playing experience for the maximum number of kids.”
As part of the partnership, Sutton’s professional trainers will conduct player and coaching clinics on Rockridge Soccer’s permitted outdoor fields in Oakland and at Sutton’s state-of-the-art indoor facility, located in Alameda. Every Rockridge Soccer player will receive a skills DVD demonstrating important skills such as dribbling, 1 v 1 moves, first touch, passing and shooting. Sutton Soccer trainers will also attend Rockridge team practices and reinforce the lessons taught on the skills DVD and at the clinics.
The foundation of the partnership between Rockridge Soccer Club and Sutton Soccer is the shared belief that the sport of soccer should be taught in a positive learning environment that is fun for both the players and coaches. The more knowledge coaches and players have, the more enjoyable the game becomes. Sutton’s training approach is to break the game down into simple building blocks and teach the components of the game in a step-by-step manner.
Commented Tom Sutton, founder of Sutton Soccer, “In order to have the greatest impact on all players in the club, we must work directly with the coaches as well as the players. Since coaches have the most contact with their players, it is vital that they be given as many tools, such as coaching clinics, written training manuals, and visual skills DVDs, as possible.”
